Nigeria at 48: Introduction

This blog seeks to look at the geographical entity called Nigeria, its history, people and their cultures in relation to the present realities. The opinions put forward here are mine, although many of them are and will derive from what is expressed by many others. The aim of the various discourse is not and will not be to rundown the state, but to raise issues as it affects us as a people and in turn our quest for development. I will neither express ethnic nor religious sentiments. Contributions are welcome (at my discretion).

As a young Nigerian, I strongly believe that Nigerians deserve a lot better than is obtainable. Considering that the country is endowed and relatively potentially wealthier compared to at least our sub-Saharan African neighbors. Yet we hear of Nigeria starting out well right at independence. Even its independence is one of the best orchestrated.

So how did she eventually find herself on the back foot? Despite efforts to get her back on track, it continues to leave even much more to desire.

What does the future hold for this nation? I was born and bred in the nation’s commercial capital, Lagos. I have got the privilege of visiting more than a half of the states that make up Nigeria; I have met a lot of its people and nationalities. But everywhere I go, I see the same thing, the same forlorn faces!

Surely, this Nigeria needs fixing, and urgently too! But who will bell the cat?
